 Week 9 highlights 

Hello fellow readers! This is Nicholas and Nitya telling you about week 9!

First of all, we are going to tell you about Year 4’s EOTC (Education outside the classroom) day!

Our first activity was Rock climbing! We met 2 people, Geoff and Shannon.  First they told us the rules. Then they taught us how to put a harness on.  After, we could get into groups of 3 and  each group took turns climbing the wall, To get the harness on, the other 2 members helped the person who was climbing, put their harness on. 

Another exciting activity we did was a scooby doo bouncy obstacle course. We got into three  teams.  Then we went through the obstacle course three times and the first team who got through the obstacle the quickest would win. 

We also had a middle team water day where the activities were water based.

We also had a craft rotation where we went to different classes to do art. 

Lastly we did these jars where we made snow globes, gift jars, stationery jars and pot plants for our parents. 

Week 8 Highlights

 This week we did some really awesome things such as,

The Tryathlon,

On Wednesday we had the Weetbix Tryathlon where four people from our class went to compete. This involved swimming, biking and running.

Year three EOTC day,

A company called Youthtown came in for the year three’s EOTC day. They went to the auditorium and the bottom court and played active games like paper scissors rock and rob the nest.

While the Year 3's did Youthtown the Year 4's got to play some games in class and did some painting and crafts.

Self portraits

 Today we recreated our self portraits to see how much we have improved in our drawing skills. 

First we had to practice drawing our nose, eyes,eyebrows, ears and mouth.

Once we've done that we had to go on our real one and start drawing the face.

We use Vivid to outline and pastels to colour.

 Week 7 Highlights

What did we do this week?

On Thursday we had class photos with PhotoLife. We have brought home an order form if you would like to buy the photos!

Duffy Theater

On Friday we went to a Duffy show. It was in the school auditorium.

It was a very funny story because in the show they did some very funny acts and all the students were laughing.  It was also very cool because they did these background transitions. Everyone was also very excited for the show. At the end we clapped very hard because of how hard they worked to present this for us.

Dress up day

Today  we dressed up as our favorite book characters. We all took a photo with our cool costumes. Everyone loved looking at them at morning tea and lunch. Some people dressed as Cat in the Hat, Ella Diaries, harry potter, spiderman, willy wonka, princess, snow cat and black cat, rey from star wars, thing 1 and thing 2, tiger, witch, mr snake form bad guys, rander, fairies , tintin, dragon killer, Harly Quinn, wheres wally, vampire, ninja, hulk, wonder woman. They were all so amazing. Sophie dressed up as ella diaries. Alyssa dressed up as the cat in the hat and the teachers dressed up as lots of things that they loved. The teachers had to take a photo too. They looked so cool. Some people were really creative and made some of their stuff on them. They had so much fun running around looking at them.

What is on next week?

Tuesday is the 1st of December!

Wednesday some children are going to the Weet-bix Tryathlon. 

Thursday the Year 3's are going to Ray Small Park to do Youthtown activities for their EOTC day (Education Out of The Classroom).

Friday we get our last Duffy books for the year!

Week 6 Highlights

This week we did some pretty amazing things like…

Cricket

On the 17th we went to do some cricket basics. We learnt how to catch a ball, aim at the target and we learnt to swing a cricket bat.

Bug Art 

Today we did bug art. We had to pick a coloured piece of paper that we painted last week and a bug that we wanted to make. 

Trying Radishes 

Yesterday we tried some radish. Lots of us said it was spicy and disgusting. But some of us liked it.

Highlights Week 5

 Hello everyone!! It’s us, room 1, Telling you about our amazing week 5!!

After our amazing weekend, the start of a new, cool week came. We are going to be swimming next Monday, which means we’re going to swim every single day! On Friday we did some really cool art! We did firework art because on Saturday it’s Diwali! On Wednesday we did some bug posters and bug animations. We were all buddied up by the bug we wanted to choose. We made a poster with facts about the bug we chose, then we made animations about the bug’s life cycle. After that, we put a link in on our poster which led to our bug animations. We were learning about making an image a link. On Friday we also did some really cool art with complementary colors. We made those into special paper that we might use to make colourful bugs.

Week 4 Highlights

 This week we have done some cool and fun things like:

Halloween art

Today we are doing Halloween art. First we have to paint a stripy background. Next we have to let the paint dry outside. While the paint is drying we cut out the skirt or shorts and cut the legs and the shoes out.

Assembly

We also had assembly Room 1 was the host of the assembly today. The hosts from room 1 were Jasleen and Liam. 

Ice block Fridays

This week and last week we had ice block Fridays. We had to bring a one dollar donation.

Card animations 

Vavega had to go to the hospital so we made a card animation on our chromebooks and a paper card for him. We tried to put his favourite things on the cards.

Posters

We did posters about lots of things and the posters we did were about saving the earth and in the saving the earth one we put in saving Pahurehure Inlet. We did a poster about  insects and some people did posters at writing about bunnys and sloths. We did posters in reading like bees and a wetas. We  loved all of them and we enjoy doing the posters.

 

Swimming - Term 4

 We are super excited to be swimming this term. Here is what we are expected to do in and around the pool to stay safe. During swimming time we are learning how to stay safe in water and how what we can do if we get into trouble in water. 

Week 3 highlights

 Hi everyone! In week 3 we did some exsiting stuff! On Monday was a public holiday because it was labour day. Tuesday was our first time swimming in a long time as well. We also had our first assembly in a really, really long time! Last friday we had an ice block day! The ice blocks were absolutely delicious!

Week 2 Highlights

 Swimming starts on Tuesday! Yay!

  Hello!!! As you can tell today I am writing about swimming. Our swimming days are going to be Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday we have not started swimming yet so I don't know what we are doing yet but I am sure we will do something fun. At the beginning of the year when we did swimming we got split up into groups and the different groups did different things one of the things we did was float on our backs and a lot more. We also did some really cool shadow bug art. We had to pick a bug and draw an outline of it onto white paper. We then put pushed it down onto black paper and drew the outline again. Then we cut it out and glued onto colourful paper.

We were lucky to have Friday off before the long weekend while the teachers had a teacher only day.

I wonder what everyone will get up to on their 4 days off school?

Well done to the children who got certificates this week!

Week 1 highlights

 We are back at school for the last term of the year. 

In week 1 we did some awesome things like:

Gardening

 Our little seedlings have been getting bigger over the school holidays. And now we have planted them into a planter bag.

Art

This week our art is inspired by Karla Gerard's folk art animals. We did bugs to stick with what we have been learning. 

Craft Market

This week some children are picking up stuff that they bought from our craft market. On Tuesday there is a craft market clearance in the Coal Bunker.

Summer

Reminders for all parents that your child must bring a hat. Please make sure it is named. It is best to use twink, white paint, or fabric pens.

Swimming

Reminders for all parents when the pool gets to 21 degrees we will be able to swim in the school pool.

Our swimming days are Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday and Friday. 

Please name togs and towel. 

Certificates go to Liam, Brayden, Kaylan and Gurbaz.

Bugs!

 Hello everyone! It’s Room 1 here, telling you about our AMAZING bug posters! We had to choose an insect and make an OUTSTANDING poster about the insect we chose. As you can tell, the topic for the term is Preservation and Conservation. We are looking into BUGS. We made posters about wasps, ladybugs, butterflies and much more! We were learning about making eye catching borders. Right now we are learning about putting actual images from google as our background! Not just solid colours or graidents,We mean ACTUAL Images that have flowers or bees or other stuff on them. Hope you look at our COOL blogs to see all of our BEAUTIFUL bug posters! See ya!

Emotion Masks

 

The Glow Show

 On Thursday we went to a glow show and it was about under the sea. The best part was when the sea orchion turned into a pearl and  at the end we got to ask questions. The show took 1 hour so the actors would take a lot of time to practice. They made the costumes with glow in the dark paint.  It was pretty funny and I liked the part when the wishing star showed up. It was  amazing for us. We were so excited and we had a glow show last year and it was about matariki.  

In the middle an octopus met the sea urchion and said where did you come from and the sea urchion said from cucumber island and then the queen come and the octopus said quick go behind me and then the queen said hello have you seen a sea urchin and he said umm ooh i saw  a sea urchin go to Fiji and the queen said we've been in Fiji and then the queen left. At the end the queen turned into a squid and got eaten. It was pretty funny and fun and it was very cool.

Week 10 Highlights

This week we did some awesome things.

Throughout the week we have been watching our seedlings grow bigger. Soon we might have to plant them into bigger pots.

On Tuesday Tip Top was kind enough to give us some jelly tip ice-creams. Some of us thought that the ice-creams were delicious.

On Thursday we watched a glow show at the Hawkins theatre. It was all about under the sea.

We are so excited that the holidays are tomorrow. Some of us are going to do some amazing things.

Animations

 For Cybersmart we got to do free animation making. We made different variations of animations and we learnt how to speed up animations to make it flow better. We needed to publish our code to the web, then somewhere in our code we could change the slide changing time from seconds, to milliseconds. Also we learnt how to duplicate slides, along with cropping images. We have chosen the top 5 animations to put on this blog post.

Week 9 highlights

This week we did some really cool activities. 

In tennis we learnt four hands and volley. We had a super amazing coach ,coach Hans. 

We also saw our plants grow into little seedlings. The tallest is 11 centimeters. 

Throughout this week we have been doing our GLOSS test with Miss Haerewa.

We did some shopping for the cardboard boxes and their prices. For the places we had the search for items was Countdown or New World.

Today we're getting an ice block. We had to pay $1 and we get it at lunchtime.

The Little Garden

 The Little Garden

The Little Garden is Room 1’s secret garden, where Room 1 grows vegetables. Room 1’s biggest secret is the students get to wear badges. When our vegetables are fully grown we get to make a stir fry or a stew. I think it’s going to be delicious! There are a whole bunch of different vegetables like spinach and other things. Do you like vegetables at least one? Room 1’s vegetables are growing super fast and we hope Room 1’s vegetables will grow super fast! We started in week 7 to grow vegetables and the tallest seedling is 11 centimeters! That seedling is Nic’s. Room 1 is so happy with all of our seedlings and mine is starting to sprout! Room 1 and Little Garden HQ are teaming up with Room 1 and they sent Room 1 special codes that Room 1 has to solve. It's different but it’s amazing!

Shopping Role-play

 This week we did some shopping role-playing!

The day before the role-playing  we had to take some food boxes and go to Countdown or New World's online shopping websites and see their real prices and write them down.  

Then we got to play! Some of us were shop keepers and the others were customers! The girls were the shop keepers and the boys were the customers. It was pretty cool when us girls were the shop keepers! We used our high table to put the boxes on. Lot's of people brought food boxes they didn't need anymore. We were learning about money and marketing. We had to give the shoppers there change and learnt lots about marketing! Each shopper was given $20 to spend on stuff we were selling.

Tennis

The last two weeks we have been doing tennis with a  coach. In tennis the first strike we learnt  was the  four hand. The next strike we learnt was the volley. Then we went into a competition. The class had to hit a tennis ball and Mr Kelly and Miss H had to catch it and if they didn't catch it we would not have a point and if they did cach it we would get a point and we had Mr kelly as our catcher and he catched  it 20 times. It was so cool and fun. The next week we went out for tennis again and then we learnt the volley after the volley practice. Our coach said that the volley was the last tennis practice. It was so much fun doing everything. On the first day of tennis our class was so nervous that they almost did not want to do it. But after that they could not wait for the next tennis practice.

Room 1 Rhyppets

The puppets are finally finished! Thanks to Mr.Kelly We got them finished fast! It was really busy in the classroom! We made hair and lots of other stuff. The people we made were Mary had a little lamb,Baa Baa black sheep, Jack and Jill,The muffin man and Little Miss Muffet. We made muffins and sheep and spiders from pom poms.
