Folk Art Houses
We finally got to finish off our Folk Art Houses that were inspired by an artist called Karla Gerard that we had started before lockdown. To create this we watched a lesson by Cassie Stephens.
First we drew some funky houses. Some were 2D and some were 3D. Next we drew patterns on them. After that we went over the outline with a vivid. Then we went into lockdown and they sat in the classroom unfinished.
Once we got back to school we used pastels and dye to make our houses colourful. We got to splatter the dye which was lots of fun.
Do you have any ideas for other funky houses?
Some of us made houses that were shaped like things - cats, trees, boats and apples.

Self portraits
On the first week of school we drew self portraits. This is when we draw our faces to look like us. We then used vivid to outline it and coloured it in with pastel. We enjoyed the whole process. When they were finished we were able to share the parts we think most look like us.

Self portraits
We drew self portraits at the beginning of the year and now again at the end of the year. We did this twice to see how much we have grown, changed and improved with our art skills. Our favourite part was comparing both pieces of work. What do you notice is different about us?

Halloween Art
For Halloween we did some artwork of spooky legs. We made a range of characters. It was really fun cutting out different shapes for the legs and clothes. Can you guess who any of them might be?

Matariki
By:Maraea
Today I went to Hawkins theater just across the road.Nearly the whole entire school went. I had fun watching The Matariki Glow show. When I was watching the show The thing I liked about The Matariki show was the acting. In moari culture Matariki to them is happy new years so they celebrate Matariki for representing a new year.Sometimes celebrations of Matariki can last for 3 or 4 days.If you also didn’t know Matariki is also a legend ,their legend name is “eyes of god” but their username that we call them is Matariki. In our year 2019 we can also celebrate Matariki even today! Cause like I said Matariki can last either 3 or 4 days and Matariki was yesterday! The time is 10:00 am in the midnight.

Self Portraits 2019
To start the year we have done self portraits. We will do the same activity at the end of the year to see how much we have grown.
