Week 1 highlights

We are back at school for the last term of the year.

In week 1 we did some awesome things like:

Gardening

Our little seedlings have been getting bigger over the school holidays. And now we have planted them into a planter bag.

Art

This week our art is inspired by Karla Gerard's folk art animals. We did bugs to stick with what we have been learning.

Craft Market

This week some children are picking up stuff that they bought from our craft market. On Tuesday there is a craft market clearance in the Coal Bunker.

Summer

Reminders for all parents that your child must bring a hat. Please make sure it is named. It is best to use twink, white paint, or fabric pens.

Swimming

Reminders for all parents when the pool gets to 21 degrees we will be able to swim in the school pool.

Our swimming days are Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday and Friday.

Please name togs and towel.

Certificates go to Liam, Brayden, Kaylan and Gurbaz.

Week 8 highlights

This week we finally finished our puppets!!! We were really busy making outfits, making more hair and much more. But thanks to Mr. Kelly we got them finished fast! So we thanked him for helping us. We made him cards! We made him go out of the class room for a bit and used colours and paper to decorate them! Miss. H got some chocolates and surprised him with them after lunch. This week we also did some tennis with our coach Hans. We learnt how and about the 4 hand, but it turns out that for the 4 hand you only use 1 hand! Some of us said we use 4 hands! Haha!  We enjoyed having a challenge against each other, our coaches were Mr. Kelly and Miss.H. Hans was keeping track of the points. We also did some shopping role playing! We loved being shopkeepers and customers! The boys were the customers and the girls were the shopkeepers. We also did some more  code cracking for the L.G.L (Little Garden League) It said…..  ‘‘The secret is out. The little garden league has been discovered. Fellow Members stay alert. Our seedlings must survive.Teach others in your whanau to protect and care for their seedling.’’ - Little garden league, code 2  2020. The clue is.... ‘‘Remember your pledge’’

Congratulations to...

Freya, Alyssa and Claudia For their amazing work this week!

This week we did a lot of thinking about our puppets.

We came up with a name and a theme. We are going to create puppets that match some popular nursery rhymes. We also wrote some stories with a story line relating to these nursery rhymes. We will call them 'Rhyppets - Rhyming Puppets'.

We are going to make The Muffin Man, Mary had a little Lamb, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Little Miss Muffet and Jack and Jill.

We had a lot of fun designing and starting the the creating process.

Week 12 Highlights

What a busy term this has been! 12 weeks long - 5 weeks of distance learning and 7 weeks in the classroom for most. During lockdown we had some fun work, easy work and hard work. When we came back from lockdown it was kind of strange because we got into a routine at home doing Google hangouts and school work. We were in lockdown for almost 2 months on our Chromebooks by ourselves lots. When we came back we had less Chromebook time and more time talking to our class mates and learning with friends. We missed learning collaboratively with our class. When we came back to school some of our class mates felt very nervous because we had been stuck at home for 2 months with only our family. We didn't want to get sick so we started strict routines. We had to sanitise our hands every time we came into the classroom. We also had to wipe the tables and door handles with disinfectant spray at the end of every day.

We are so happy and excited to have a holiday break where we can go out and do things with friends and family! Our last holiday break we couldn't go anywhere!  Enjoy your holidays!

Week 10 Highlights

This weeks certificates go to:
Freya, Nic, Ihaka, Vavega.
Congratulations!

This week we have started learning about fractions. We worked in groups to solve the questions below. We used strips of paper and scissors to cut the 'chocolate' up to share with our friends.  We need to remember to fold the paper before cutting to make sure it is fair. Noone wants to be given a smaller piece of chocolate than their friends. We are learning the words 'half' and 'quarter' when talking about what we did.

On Friday afternoon we had a "crafternoon" (crafts in the afternoon). We got lots of resources and got creative!

Week 9 Highlights

Welcome to Vavega our new student and Mr Kelly our teacher aid.

This week has been an exciting one for the Year 3's as their blogs have been set up! With a bit of support they wrote their first post. There was a lot of cheering and clapping when they were all posted. They have been eager to create new learning to share on their blogs which is fantastic. Please check them out! You can find student blogs down the left hand side of our class blog.

Week 8 Highlights

This week our certificates go to
Ivy, Liam, Emmet and Nitya.
Congratulations!

What have we been up to this week?

Well we have been learning about how Kupe discovered New Zealand while chasing an octopus who kept eating his bait while he was fishing. We also made some Tapa Cloths designs by cutting shapes and patterns with paper, and then tracing them onto a sheet of paper. They look really cool!

In maths we have been learning about how we can solve multiplication problems by putting objects into an array. We learnt new meanings to the words 'row' and 'columns'. It is important for us to remember which way a row is and which way a column because if we mix them up it changes up the multiplication equation. We learnt a little dance that could help us remember this.

Week 7 Highlights

We are now back into our normal routine, learning, having fun and being really independent! Many children have become more independent since coming back to school. They settle quickly to work and manage themselves and get their tasks done on time. They have learnt many new skills on their chromebooks so the Cybersmart lessons I had planned are being completed quickly. It is time to introduce new programs and skills!

This week our certificates go to
Dlijot, Punjab, Sophie and JJ.
Congratulations!

This term our inquiry topic is...

We are looking into who discovered New Zealand. This week we learnt about the myth of how Maui pulled up a giant stingray which is now the North Island.

Check out our amazing stingray art!

Week 6 Highlights

Welcome back to school!

It feels great getting back into the swing of things. The students have readjusted well and are enjoying being back.

This week we have been sharing stories and our experience in lockdown. We have written some amazing recounts and letters to document what I hope is a once of a life time experience. We have also made a Covid-19 Time Capsule to save special photos, thoughts, feelings and memories. I have also done this task with my 3 year old daughter in the hope of saving it to look back on when she is older. Please save a copy, add to it, print it or whatever if you want to save the memories. There are also some questions for your children to ask you if you have the time.

This weeks certificates go to:
Grace, Erin, Brayden and Claudia. Congratulations!
