What is a balanced diet?

We have been learning about what foods we should eat to have a balanced diet. We need protein, carbohydrates, good fats. You can get these from many different foods! You can also have treats but not all the time. Here are some plates we made up of a balanced dinner meal. 

What is your favourite dinner meal?

Most of us love pizza! We can't have it every day but it is great as a treat dinner occasionally.

We have been learning how to greet others in Te Reo Maori. To do this we sing songs, talk to each other and then we made an infographic using characters and speech bubbles. We enjoyed greeting each other in the classroom and when on our Chromebooks we enjoyed learning how to search the web for pictures.

Water Safety

During swimming time we have been learning how to be safe in water and how to look after ourselves if we get into trouble in water. During this lesson half the class made waves by moving their bodies back and forward and by kicking in the water. The other half had to try and float on their backs for 1 minute. This is what it would be similar to if we fell off a boat into the ocean. We learnt from this how important it is to wear a life jacket all the time when you are on a boat. It was really hard to us to stay afloat during this time, we got tired and water kept splashing in our faces. We then practiced putting out hand in the air while floating as this is the signal for HELP. This was really hard to do! We struggled to float with a hand in the air!

Summer Poems

We have written some poems about summer. Here are all the things that we think of when we use our senses in summer. 

We also did some art relating to summer. We used water colour paint to create a beach scene. Once the background dried we got to splatter white paint to make it look like waves crashing. You might have noticed that our school uniforms came home splattered with white paint!

Shared Class Poem

This week we wrote a shared poem about the colour blue. We each had to write a sentence about what the colour blue reminded us of. We had to use descriptive words to make it more interesting. Once we had written our sentences we got together to edit them and add more descriptive words in and make sure each sentence made sense. After that we put the sentences together in a way that we thought flowed. 

We enjoyed talking about everything that reminds us of the colour blue.

Literacy Fun

We have been exploring some hands on resources and games that will help us with our literacy learning.

In Room 1 we have puppets and magnetic stories to help us retell stories and to make up new stories that will motivate us to write!

We also have a Silly Sentences puzzle. We can make silly sentences, learn new words and learn about the types of words there are like nouns and verbs.

Other games we have are some sounds and word board games.

All about me

We are learning how to make photos smaller, cropping, inserting images and adding colour to boxes. 

We enjoyed writing the words on it. We also enjoyed inserting images.
