Poetry Recital
All the students did an amazing job with learning and performing a poem in front of Room 17. Choosing the 4 finalist to perform today was a very hard decision!
Here is a video of the 4 finalist from Room 17.
I will post photos and announce the winners tomorrow after they have had a chance to tell their parents about the experience.

Oat the Goat
Oat the Goat
This is an online story we watched in class today to help us learn what to do when we see someone being picked on or bullied. It was a great read and the children really enjoyed. They asked for it to be shared to the class blog so they can show their family.

Stingray Art
We have been looking into Maori Myths and Legends. One of the myths we learnt about was Maui and the Giant Fish. This is about how Maui caught a giant stingray while fishing and when he pulled it up it turned into the North Island of New Zealand.

Solving maths problems together
I have 20 lollies and I need to share them evenly onto each quarter of the cake. How many lollies will be on 1/4 of the cake?
Gold Stars
"I like to read and i like to write
Print my name and do it right
Teacher tells me I’m doing well.
I get a gold star cause now i can spell."
Collaboration on an art peice
This term we have been learning about collaboration. Collaboration means, "You work as a team with no boss." - Lily. "When you sit down as a team and you talk about your ideas." - Grace. "When you disagree you tell them nicely." - Erin.
The children have been working together to create a map that they all agreed on. They learnt to solve problems together and what to do when they couldn't agree.

Spelling
Each week the students have 3 words to practice and learn. These words will be in their Home Links books. The students need to write each word 3 times. Here is how they can do that, Look at the word, Say the word, Cover the word, Write the word and Check. This can be done independently. If your child has the same word 2 weeks in a row it means they have not learnt it yet. If they still don't know it by the third week it will be put down as a forth word so you know they may need more practice but we will move on to another so they don't get disheartened or bored.
You can find more exciting activities here to help your child learn their words. Fun ways to practice spelling words
Also remember to read every night! Readers, poems and books from home all count towards their reading.

If I had a super power...
Last week we wrote a short story about what super power we would like and how our morning would go if we woke up with it. We then made it into a comic strip, using detailed pictures, speech bubbles, thought bubbles and sound words, such as 'boom' and 'crash'.
