PJ day!

Today at Papakura Central School we had a PJ day to raise money to pay off the last of our Motat trip. We had lots of different types of PJ's and noone in the class had the same PJ's.

Olive felt weird in the morning because she was taking one pair of PJ's off at home and putting on a new pair.

Archer and Natalie were excited and interested to see all the other PJ's.

Arniekay felt weird because it is not usual to leave your PJ's on in the morning.

Isabella felt a bit nervous and embarrassed but when she saw others in their PJ's she felt better.

Phoenix felt confused choosing a new pair to wear instead of his school uniform.

Miss Haerewa felt really comfortable and warm when she got to school in her onesie.

We started the day with a story about PJ day to calm us all down because we were so excited and noisy.

Then we did some calming yoga because we didn't want our PJ's to get dirty, wet and sweaty outside.

Do you like wearing your PJ's in public?

Harry Potter

In Room 1 some of us really love Harry Potter so we decided it would be nice to have some drawing time. We enjoy drawing because we can express ourselves, draw cool things that we like and it makes us feel relaxed.

Have you ever watched Harry Potter?
Does drawing make you relaxed?
Do you like expressing yourself through drawings?

Duffy Assembly

Today Toby Morris came to our school  to hand out our Duffy Books. Toby Morris is an illustrator and an author! He has drawn many things that are sold in shops, like the picture on the Edmond Baking Powder box.

He has also written a couple of books we can't wait to read and illustrated some of the stories in the School Journals we have read.

Toby showed us some of the things he had drawn and some of the books  he had illustrated. Then he drew a monster made from the things we told! Check it out in the slide!

We love getting our Duffy books and really love reading in Room 1!

Compare and contrast

We are learning to compare stories to see what is the same and what is different.
We enjoy watching and reading different stories and hearing different points of view.

Have you listened to these stories?

My Wearable Arts Experience

We have been learning about litter pollution and how it effects the earth and the animals.
We have been working on some wearable arts costumes to show our present earth and future earth.

We enjoyed creating all the costumes.

How do you look after the environment?

A room full of friends

We are learning the different features on Google Slides. We can change the background, add 'Cool Text'  graphics, add photos and GIFS, and change our writing font, colour and size.

We enjoyed writing the facts about our selves and learning about our friends in the classroom.

Can you make a slide as cool as ours?
What do you want to know about your friends?

Bike Helmet Safety

We are learning to wear our helmet correctly to protect our head.
I enjoyed trying to put the helmet on in different ways.
Do you know how to protect your head while riding your bike?

Welcome to Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu

This week we have been preparing for Tuhi Mai Tuhi Atu (write to me, write to others) which is a way of us sharing our learning across New Zealand.

This is a presentation we created as a class to introduce ourselves to Waihirere - Riverdale School in Gisborne and Taonga Class at Mangonui School in the Far North. It is full of all the things our class thinks are important to share with new people we meet.

We can't wait to check out your blogs and see what you are learning!

Happy Fathers Day

We have been learning how to write a character description. Luckily Fathers Day is coming up giving us someone special to describe - our Dads!

We enjoyed describing the way our Dads look to a buddy and thinking about all the special things our Dads do for us and with us.

What is something special about your Dad?
