The Enormous Crocodile

We also did some writing about the characters. We described them and used a thesaurus to look for more interesting words.

What do you think we could do to improve our writing?

The Enormous Crocodile
The Enormous Crocodile was rude and cunning. He gets scary and nasty. The Enormous Crocodile had giant teeth and was brave. He was cruel and evil but his plans always failed. He was ugly with an attitude. The Enormous Crocodile was hateful and bad. He’d always eat children and he’d be beastly and had strength. He is villainous.

Muggle wump!

Muggle wump is a monkey of “The enormous crocodile” Book. He is very kind caring and full of energy. He tries to stop the crocodile in the book. Muggle wump is brave, he is strong, he is mostly happy and is fun! Muggle wump is friendly and if someone is hurt or scared or worried or needs help Muggle wump will come charging in. Muggle wump is very clever and sneaky, noble and smart. He’s very gentle and full of love for one another. There is one time when he gets furious angry cross and rough and that is when he sees that someone is trying to hurt kill eat or do something that is not very nice to someone else. Muggle wump is very adventurous, determined, expreseve, enthusiastic, fearless, friendly, honest, independent, knowledgeable, loyal, passionate, reliable, responsible, supportive and wise. Muggle wump is really cool!

Collection Counting

We have started counting collections in Maths.

Counting Collections is an opportunity for children to count a collection of objects. They might count the items one-by-one or skip-count by groups. After children have organised and counted the collection they record how they counted.

Self portraits

We drew self portraits at the beginning of the year and now again at the end of the year. We did this twice to see how much we have grown, changed and improved with our art skills. Our favourite part was comparing both pieces of work. What do you notice is different about us?

Pygmy seahorses

We have been learning how to take notes and then using our notes to write an information report.
We enjoyed watching the Youtube video about the Pygmy Seahorses.
Have you ever heard about the Pygmy Seahorse before?

Pygmy Seahorses

Pygmy Seahorses are one of the smallest seahorses in the world. They are normally 2 centimeters.

Camouflage is critical to their survival because they can hide from predators.

Here is a question.
Do they find a coral that matches them or do they change colour to match the coral?

The babies pop out of the dad's tummy. When the Pygmy seahorses are born they are a chocolate dull brown colour.

If the baby Pygmy seahorses are by an orange sea fan they will turn orange and if the baby Pygmy seahorses are by a purple sea fan they will turn purple. The babies grow bumps that are called tubercles to match the coral.

The Pygmy seahorses don’t travel to different corals because the predators might see them and eat  them.

How to check your bike is safe

We have been learning about how to check that a bike is safe to ride. The best part of doing this is being able to ride the bike after.

Did you know what to do before getting on your bike?

PJ day!

Today at Papakura Central School we had a PJ day to raise money to pay off the last of our Motat trip. We had lots of different types of PJ's and noone in the class had the same PJ's.

Olive felt weird in the morning because she was taking one pair of PJ's off at home and putting on a new pair.

Archer and Natalie were excited and interested to see all the other PJ's.

Arniekay felt weird because it is not usual to leave your PJ's on in the morning.

Isabella felt a bit nervous and embarrassed but when she saw others in their PJ's she felt better.

Phoenix felt confused choosing a new pair to wear instead of his school uniform.

Miss Haerewa felt really comfortable and warm when she got to school in her onesie.

We started the day with a story about PJ day to calm us all down because we were so excited and noisy.

Then we did some calming yoga because we didn't want our PJ's to get dirty, wet and sweaty outside.

Do you like wearing your PJ's in public?

Harry Potter

In Room 1 some of us really love Harry Potter so we decided it would be nice to have some drawing time. We enjoy drawing because we can express ourselves, draw cool things that we like and it makes us feel relaxed.

Have you ever watched Harry Potter?
Does drawing make you relaxed?
Do you like expressing yourself through drawings?

Duffy Assembly

Today Toby Morris came to our school  to hand out our Duffy Books. Toby Morris is an illustrator and an author! He has drawn many things that are sold in shops, like the picture on the Edmond Baking Powder box.

He has also written a couple of books we can't wait to read and illustrated some of the stories in the School Journals we have read.

Toby showed us some of the things he had drawn and some of the books  he had illustrated. Then he drew a monster made from the things we told! Check it out in the slide!

We love getting our Duffy books and really love reading in Room 1!

Compare and contrast

We are learning to compare stories to see what is the same and what is different.
We enjoy watching and reading different stories and hearing different points of view.

Have you listened to these stories?

We enjoyed writing the facts about our selves and learning about our friends in the classroom.

Can you make a slide as cool as ours?
What do you want to know about your friends?
